Description

Quoted from other forums, cause I don't wanna miss anything :p

A Modern Classical Painting workshop commissioned by ImagineFX, to be found in Issue 17.

To be exact, I aimed at an early XXth century stylization. Lots and lots of studying done to get the subject, composition and feeling right... The works of W. Bouguereau and Lord Frederic Leighton were especially helpful :)
For extra fun, I incorporated some elements from works the old masters' paintings: e.g. I placed the character in the same forest as Bouguereau his Biblis. Please check the link below for details! Also, I ended up adding a small surreal twist to the image. I will refrain from outlaying the idea behind it, I hope the picture itself manages to tell the story. :)

The whole image was done in Painter X with Airbrushes, Chalks, Oils and Blenders with slight help from Photoshop. Aside from some live reference, I used many paintings/photos for inspiration and anatomy checks - click hereto see. The images were found through google, goodart.org, art-liquidation.com and (if I remember correctly) getty.

The painting technique was quite different from my usual, with much more Airbrush used in the process. Also, when doing the background, I went for a looser look, only hinting details with visible brushstrokes instead of painting everything precisely.

All comments and critiques are very welcome

This is Beautiful. very Inspiring.

The only Critique I have is that her right arm looks a bit too long. Something to do with the shoulder.

Great details. ^_^ Love it

Nice one, I can even see your inspiration without looking at the refs. Bou's color palettes are eye burning, such is not easy to forget.
Your own interpretation/ adaption of this subject really suits it.
All I must say I don't like that mutch because it seems to stick out a bit is the lock in her chest - but maybe you wanted it to be so?

wow,,yes the effort u've done in this one is very shown,,it must hae taken u a while to do it but the result worth it,,,woooooooooooooow,,
but one thing,,her chest,,i feel that there's an anatomy issue,,or it's just me?
i dont know realy,,maybe the lock makes that issue?
i dont love to say what people gotta do,,but i feel that it'll be fine with the key only without the lock,,,but realy realy great work and i love it so much,,and the key is awsome;)
everything here is just very well done

You went for that classic look this time, and you nailed it. Bouguereau would be proud :) The skin tones are excellent, and the background is nicely detailed w/o being overworked. Overall, a very solid piece, always good to see something different from you.

Very, very, very nice. The skintones, in particular, are a delight. I do feel there's something odd about the way the figure interacts with the background, most evident around the head; it just seems the background turns into a backdrop rather than an actual space. Bah, but this is quite beautiful anyway. The submerged gold keys are actually my favorite part. Oddly enough, I just finished a piece in graphite featuring a woman with a (giant) keyhole on her chest and another figure with a key.

Proportion is golden. But I'm incredibly bored with the background.

Mainly the top right corner.

I love the gentleness of this.

Great work.

and I think i told ou already you're awesome at painting hands!
th eonly crit i have for this piece is that I would have expanded the canvas sideways a tiiiiny bit, only jsut to fit in her left hand and the thing she's resting on

I've always loved this painting. The skin tones look so classical and transparent, like you could just touch her.
