Description
I was suggested to paint a woman drinking from a pretty cup... And, well, that's my interpretation of the theme. Now, what does this say about me?
Anyway, I always seem to paint full body figures, so I decided it's time to try doing a close up. It required a huge amount of patience from my side to paint all the details, but I think that it was all worth it in the end. This picture was mainly meant to be an "extreme realism" practice (especially in transparent fabrics, skintones and backgrounds), but I also wanted to share my, uhm, sense of humour with you guys
The painting was done from absolute scratch in Painter and Photoshop CS. No photos or whatever. The only references used (no strict ones) are ones for the old photos and the wallpaper. I have also done a lot of studying on the gowns from the beginning of XXth century, but what you see is purely my own, original design.
As for the story behind the artwork, I hope the painting manages to tell it clearly by itself.
PS. I am sorry for a small number of close-ups and the like, but I intend to use this piece in a tutorial book I am currently writing.

cool details. I love the dress details

Having said that, there are some issues that bother me; The face is a bit plastic looking (too overexposed), especially in contrast to her body. That's just a small issue though, and I'm sure you did that on purpose to make the face the focal point, so you still get a +10 from me.
Keep it up, you're a great inspiration to us all.

the face look a little weird ... but is a incredible artwork ...
Love the Blody knife in the table ...

but... after looking at this for a few minutes cause I wanted to study everything ...
I feel you spent alot of time here and there and I feel the face could have as much attention as the rest like her hands and dress and little details..
her face needs just a tad more TLC her jaw line, her ear, and her hair..
the cup is amazing! really there is just so much work here its amazing...
I know you probably wont go and make any edits, but if you did, I would hope it would just be fixing up those little parts I mentioned
seriously this is really wonderful you really out did your self!

POINTS!

However, I'm not very sure, but her hair doesn't seem well-done and it looks separate from other parts which you've done excellently.
Anyway, 7/7.

I love your interpretation of that time - looks really charming. And her expression is just lovely, regarding, that there is a bloody knife

Admirable and inspirative...
the knife, the wallpaper, the dress... one of the best works I've seen lately!
You just forgot to clean some strokes in the lower left of the pic at her dress.

but when i scrutinise it, she's way more classy. BEAUTIFUL.the cup is fantastic and her dress is stunning, especially the way you're captured the gauze material.
just a few crits though.. in my humble opinion, her facial features look somewhat wonky, her right pupil is not as intensely coloured as the other one (though i know you mean it to be that way due to the shadows..but somehow its looks a bit off to me) and like mysticcat said, her hair could use more attention.
but overall, very nice work!

It's well worth spending a few more hours on this, you've captured that Victorian feel so perfectly, from the choice of colours to the lovely soft modeling of the hands and arms...by comparrison the face looks quite modern, a little flat and skewed and lacks the soft volumes of the rest of her.
Of course being a bit of a blood monkey myself it's the knife that makes it for me!!!

I have seen your work at various parts of the net, even caught an issue of your work in Art Scene. Congrats on that. I am really a big fan of your work and I would like to think that one day I can produce work as high a caliber as your.
I love that there are little imperfections like the wallpaper lines not being perfectly straight or the base of the tea cup being slightly larger on one end. I also love the softness and the transparency of the cloth around her shoulders. Everything is so elegant except for the bloody knife on the table. I think the knife makes the image. If it wasn’t there it would be too pretty, too perfect and boring. The knife gives it this nice dark twist along with the expression on her face.
